At Hastings on Westernport Bay.

 

Come and celebrate this win for Westernport with Preserve Westernport Action Group.  It has been 4 years

Of fighting to save this ecologically significant Bay from industrial destruction.

Shearwater Festival - 2015 - Learn.Protect.Celebrate

In 2015, the Phillip Island Shearwater Festival will be held on Saturday 21 November and Sunday 22 November. Now in its fourth year, the Shearwater Festival is continuing to grow and has become an important part of the local cultural landscape.

Festival activities include a street procession, creative, cultural and environmental workshops, a participative dance ritual, music and dance performances and environmental walks and talks.

Captain of Westernport Community Forum

Captain Shane Vanamuttu who will be on Phillip Island to explain two issues that will affect Western Port:

1) the VICPLAN Oil Spill Plan for our area, and

2) the possibility of allowing the Oil Drill Rig that was recently parked off Cowes to be parked here for an indeterminate amount of time.

The meeting will be held at 10.30 a.m.- 12 noon this Friday 19 June at the Heritage Centre Meeting Room, 89 Thompson Ave Cowes. Unfortunately Shane is not available to come at any other time. Scenario Planning Workshop

Bass Coast Council approved funding for a study by internationally acclaimed researchers into the impact of the proposed Port of Hastings Extension on the environment of Western Port. The study to commence in late July will develop a range of scenarios that give proper weight to environmental values as well as their contribution to the economy of the area. The study will be done right here on Phillip Island over a one week period and will involve key stakeholders; Councillors, CEO’s, The Victorian National Parks Association, Western Port & Peninsula Protection Council, industry and environmental specialists.
